A pair of district championship rematches will take place on Thursday as the boys’ basketball region championships tip-off. Four Chattanooga area teams (Tyner, Howard, Cleveland and Bradley Central) will be battling it out for their respective region’s tournament crown.
Region 3-AA Championship: Tyner vs. Howard
In Region 3-AA, Howard and Tyner will meet at East Ridge High School at 7:00 p.m. Howard, the District 6-AA runner-up, look to avenge their loss in the district title game to the Hustlin’ Tigers. In semifinal action, Howard down Brainerd 69-57 while Tyner needed a last-second three from Melique Hambrick to defeat Red Bank 53-52. Tyner has won all three matchups against Howard this season. Can the fourth time be the charm for the Hustlin’ Tigers?
Region 3-AAA Championship: Cleveland @ Bradley Central
In Class AAA, one of the biggest rivalry in Chattanooga area preps will be renewed as Bradley Central meets Cleveland. The last time these two met was in the District 5-AAA championship game, a game in which the Bears won, but controversially. After a technical foul was called on Cleveland, Bradley Central’s Mason Rothwell sunk the game-winning free throws to secure the district championship for the Bears.
The Region 3-AAA championship game was scheduled to be played at White County High School, but the game will now take place at Bradley Central High School, where the controversial district title game was played. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
Region Championship game will officially be played at Bradley Central High School Thursday 7 pm at the SMIDDY!!!! #gobears🐻🏀
