News from North Port: Braves will play two on Friday

During the month of spring training games, clubs will partake in a split-squad, which is where the team splits up their teams and play two games in one day. The Braves will send a group to Clearwater to face division foe Philadelphia, while another will stay at CoolToday Park to take on the New York Yankees.

Mike Soroka will get the start and make his spring training debut in North Port against the Yankees. He was scheduled to start last Sunday, but that start was delayed after the right-hander felt tightness in his right adductor. The 2019 All-Star missed all of last spring training due to shoulder soreness. His battery-mate will be free agent signee Travis d’Arnaud. The lineup for the game against the Yankees goes as follows:

Bryse Wilson will get the ball in the road game against the Phillies. Wilson struggled in his first start of the spring, throwing two innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs in a 5-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers. The lineup for the Braves’ game at Clearwater’s Spectrum Field can be found below.

The Braves returned home to CoolToday Park on Thursday after a losing effort in Sarasota against the Orioles. In a rematch of the National League Division Series, Atlanta defeated the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 3-1. Reliever Luke Jackson got the win, throwing one scoreless inning and striking out two. Nick Markakis and Dansby Swanson both had doubles in the win, while 2019 first round draft pick Braden Shewmake recorded an RBI.
