Atlanta Braves address need for bullpen depth before trade deadline
It has been a looming question all summer for Braves’ fans: When will the Braves make a move to add to the bullpen, and who will it be?
That question has been answered just hours before the trade deadline, with a move last night to acquire Chris Martin from the Texas Rangers. In the move the Braves trade away minor league pitcher Kolby Allard.
The 33-year old right hander has had a solid year for the Rangers, appearing in 38 games with a career low 3.08 ERA. He has pitched 38 innings on the season, and has 43 strikeouts and only 4 walks. He has been especially impressive in his last 12 outings, only allowing two runs in that span.
Standing a 6ft, 8in, 215 pounds, Martin “relies heavily on his mid-to-upper 90s fastball and keeps the ball on the ground half the time” according to a scouting report from BaseballAllAmerica.com.
